ARSN bases its regulatory requirements on IAEA safety standards. Here are the main series of standards applicable to the Nigerien context.
Fundamental requirements applicable to all nuclear and radiological activities. Cover radiation protection, waste management, facility safety.
Requirements specific to a type of facility or activity. Includes SSR-6 on transport, SSR-1 on nuclear power plants, SSR-4 on waste management.
Application guides for general requirements. Provide practical recommendations on implementing safety requirements.
Documents on nuclear security: physical protection, detection, combating illicit trafficking, nuclear cybersecurity and nuclear forensics.
ARSN guides and IAEA standards are complementary. Here is how to use them in your daily practice.
First consult the ARSN guides specific to your domain (ARSN-RP-01, ARSN-MED-02…) to identify the required documents and technical requirements to be met.
For shielding and radiation protection design, refer to ARSN guides and GSR Part 3 standards, supplemented by IAEA safety reports.
Guide ARSN-PCR-08 defines the RPO training programme. GSG standards provide the technical basis for qualified trainers.
In a radiological emergency, guide ARSN-URG-06 provides immediate procedures. IAEA standard GS-R-2 details the national preparedness framework.
If you cannot find the document you need, contact the Radiation Protection Directorate. ARSN can direct you to the appropriate resources or provide direct technical support.
